Read about a group of travelers who visited the Mapusha Weaving Cooperative as part of an Elderhostel/Exploritas (now Road Scholar) program in October 2009. They banded together as the “Bushbabies,” a collective effort to raise money to support the cooperative.

Visit the studio

The studio is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, and by special arrangement on weekends. Tours begin in the morning and last from one to two hours, depending on your interests. If you are in South Africa and wish to arrange a visit, please telephone:

Wonder at 072.691.0021 or Emerencia at 072.469.7060

Directions

The Mapusha studio is located 6k (kilometers) off the R40 between Klaserie and Bushbuckridge. Driving from Hoedspruit towards Bushbuckridge, take a left at the robot for Acornhoek, located 5.4k after the Orpen Road. Drive 4.3k through the center of Acornhoek until you reach a sign for Dingleydale. Here, turn right onto a dirt road. Drive 1.8k and look for a small sign for the Catholic mission. Turn right into the driveway. The studio is the first building on the right, across from the church.
